black + tan

In both fashion and interior design, I find something so sophisticated about the combination of black and tan.  I love this Fall weekend look!

Exceptional Bathrooms

One of my favorite rooms in a house is a luxurious bathroom or powder room.  It is one of those rooms where you can let go of some of your design inhibitions and pursue something a little more creative or daring then you may be willing to risk in other parts of your home. Because of their (typically) small size, it is also an easy room to renovate in order to give your entire house a face life.

I absolutely LOVE the round bath tub and gold fixtures in this design by David Collins.

round bath tub

This one by Frank Shirley looks so serene.  It is a relatively simple design, but it is executed so perfectly.  The tile design on the floor is totally eye-catching without being distracting.

I saw this one in a home designed by John Nash.  It’s from a terraced mansion in the UK.

A few from Boston designer, Leslie Fine:

This contemporary bathroom is by designer Rebecca Ascher for a Nantucket home. The beautiful round bathtub is made of volcanic limestone and resin by Victoria + Albert.

I could write an entire anthology about Ralph Lauren‘s homes, but here is a glimpse into the bathroom of his Manhattan apartment.  I love the white lacquered cabinetry and the view of Central Park reservoir.

…And a few more faves for good measure

Home of the week – What’s on the Market?

The details: London, United Kingdoms • 14 bedrooms • 27,000 Sq Ft •  $163,800,000

This house isn’t new to the market…nor is it as much a house as it a mansion.  However, I have never seen a $164 million home before so I felt compelled to share this one!  Everything about this palatial London estate, known as Heath Hall, is grand: the meticulous interior, the thoughtful landscaping and the historical architecture.  It was built in 1910 for Sugar Magnate William Park Lyle and currently owned by Andreas Panayiotou, CEO of the Ability Group.  Panayiotou and a team of 120+ master craftsmen have spent the past six years restoring this historical masterpiece to perfection.  It boasts 14 bedrooms, indoor and outdoor pools, a tennis court, restored Arts and Crafts brickwork, temperature controlled wine cellar, movie theater and a master bathroom made out of one single piece of onyx costing over £20,000.

It is currently listed with Glentree Estates for £100,000,000.

I love the vaulted ceiling and this black chandelier is amazing.

This onyx bathroom is out of this world….and the neutral color palette is right up my alley

House of Blues

Blue has been my life-long favorite color.  There is always something blue in just about every room of my home, regardless of where it goes or how it gets there.  I love these blue rooms by Lewis Interiors.

More from Lewis Interiors – I love the blue accents! The blue drapes, the blue settee, the blue cabinetry…perfection!

Here a few beautiful blue room by David Collins.  I love these blue and white ombre drapes with this navy couch. The light blue runner in the hallway looks so clean and regal next to these white trimwork walls.

I typically don’t really like a blue andy yellow design combo, but I saw this gorgeous chair set at barneys over the weekend and I literally wanted to take it home with me.

Michael Kors on Singita

As if I needed another reason to love Michael Kors, this week I discovered that his new Spring 2012 collection was inspired by Singita Lebombo Lodge in Kruger National Park, South Africa.  This is very special to me, because just over two years ago, I spent my honeymoon at Singita.  Singita’s South African Game Reserves are comprised of five lodges: Ebony, Boulders (were I stayed,) Castleton, Lebombo (where Kors stayed) and Sweni. They are located in the Sabi Sand Reserves and Kruger National Park, which is known for its beauty and the likelihood of spotting the ‘Big 5.’  I must say that my experience with Singita was beyond all expectations.  I cannot emphasize enough how life-changing my safari experience truly was.  We were lucky enough to spot the big 5 plus so much more.

MK described Singita as “his favorite escape in the world,” which I can completely agree with. He stayed at Lebombo three times and then translated his experience through his work. Just viewing the rich colors of his collection gave me flashbacks to such an incredible time in my life. Kors describes his collection as “Afri-luxe” and a “rustic modernism of Lebombo Lodge.”

First, Here are some images of Michael Kors Spring 2012 Collection:

Home of the Week – What’s on the Market?

I receive updates from Southeby’s Realty every now and then about the exquisite homes for sale around the world.  I came across this one right here in America – Montauk, New York – and it just took my breath away.  It inspired me to share my favorite homes that are new to the market each week.  So, here is my very first home of the week!

The details: Montauk, NY • 4 bedrooms • 4.5 baths • 4,590 Sq Ft •  $9,950,000

This oceanfront, glass and wood mansion was designed by award-winning architect Steven Harris and built just last year.  The main structure of this home functions as one room, but there is so much more to it than it first appears.  Some of the highlights of this home include the “separate” guest wing, which is really connected by underground passageways and the windows of the basement level media room which offer views of swimmers in the outdoor pool. Sitting on one of the highest locations of Montauk, it has a private beach and unbeatable views of the sunset at Montauk Point.

Autumn Inspiration

I haven’t left the house without a jacket in over a week, so I think its safe to say that Fall is in full effect here in New England. Its time to embrace the warmer tones and turn your home from cool to cozy.  Restoration Hardware has such a rich and warm selection this season, which is where I found my Autumn Inspiration.

These pieces are beautiful for Fall, but would easily transition through every season.

If you want to spruce up your home without a full renovation each season, try changing up your window treatments for a crisp autumn feeling.  These velvet panels from Restoration Hardware, (which are currently on sale and available in a million colors,) are a great investment to transition into the cooler seasons.

This Restoration Hardware Faux fur throw (only $99!!) is guaranteed to warm up any space.

Add these accessories for a quick fix
