The New Rash Guards

The weather down here in Dallas is getting pretty hot, we are supposed to hit 100 today – ugh…  which means afternoon activities no longer involve the outdoors unless they include sitting somewhere poolside.

Ive always been concerned about the sun and the damage it can cause as I have very sensitive Irish skin, my husbands says from time to time it’s pale enough to stop traffic but I prefer to refer to my skin as Nicole Kidman-esque or milky white (although the freckles get in the way of the milky part).  Anyway, last year I lived in my j.crew rash guard and this year was happy to see that they have expanded their line along with a number of other retailers selling similar products this season.  Gone are the strictly for surfer rash guards, today rash guards range from pretty preppy stripes and florals to lovely geometric patterns all to help and protect the fashionably minded and skin protective girl while hanging out by the pool.

Here are a few of my favorites out there right now:

I love the above two from J.Crew, the red multi stripe is new this season and the blue and white is the one I have and live in.

I thought this floral look from shopbop was cute, its sold out but if you like the floral look J.Crew has one as well, featured below.

A few top designers are even getting into the mix, below are looks from Tory Burch, Cynthia Rowley and Pret-a-surf:

Are any of you rash guard fans?

Asian Consoles and Maxi Dresses

Asian consoles and maxi dresses, those two things go together right?  Well, maybe not but those are two topics on my mind today.  I would also hate to bore you with constant kitchen talk so I will do my best to mix things up a bit.

So first up asian console tables.  I have a spot in my family room that I have been looking to fill with just the right console table, I have visions of a long dark wood console table with two beautiful brass lamps and a gilded mirror above it.  Below are a few console styling images I love:

I love this table but it was sold by the time I saw it was in stock at again and again here is Dallas:

again and again

Of course there is always that darn decorating budget so I have to be patient with my purchases.  I also know I want a more vintage feel in the table I buy for that space (i.e., slightly used so less expensive).  I have been scourging antique stores in the area as well as local estate sales and I found one!  I havent actually seen it in person but its at an estate sale here in Dallas TODAY which I can’t get to until 1pm so I’m hoping it will still be there and the price will be right!  Will keep you posted.

On to maxi dresses, specifically the variety that can be worn by a pregnant person.

I have two boys and another baby on the way (last one for sure).  Living in Dallas it gets VERY warm here in the summer so my go to wardrobe item is the maxi dress.  After #2 was born I thought I never wanted to see a maxi dress again so I donated a lot of what I had thinking I was done having kids.  There were a couple items I should have held onto but now I guess I have an excuse to update my wardrobe with a few things I will no doubt wear the heck out of all summer.   But where to start?  Shopbop!  They have some great maxi dresses that are lightweight and figure flattering.  I usually LOVE Rachel Pally  but her line this season is filled with cut outs and tiny straps but I did manage to find a cute purple ikat caftan on sale and I also picked up an easy to wear all Velvet black maxi for night-time:

Calypso, Tory Burch and Roberta Roller Rabbit are always great resources as well, here are a few staples I picked for this summer:

Love how light weight this calypso top is!

Tory Burch

This Tory top looks great with white jeans and will be a great go to top until I hit that dreaded enormous stage.

Roberta Roller Rabbit kurtas are so lightweight they make any summer day a breeze!

Happy Weekend!!  Wish me luck at the estate sale!!

Oscar de la Renta – FKO

I cannot get over this beautiful little collection spotted on the Oscar de la Renta runway.  His timeless elegance translates wonderfully to his children’s collection.  I can hardly wait until the day when I can wrap up my baby boy in one of those precious pink blazers.

Fall Inspiration

Anyone else getting excited for Fall? Personally, it’s my favorite tim of year….

Labor Day White

I cannot believe it is already Labor Day weekend… this summer has flow by! I love Miranda Kerr in this lovely white dress and Labor Day weekend is the perfect time to wear something like it.

Fashion Friday: Wide-leg Jeans

Did I really hear the local weather report correctly this morning? After this massive heat wave in New England, today is going to be “unseasonably chilly.”  Today, I can actually bear the thought of wearing pants and my new favorite style: wide-leg jeans!

Happy Friday!
